After more than 30 years as an HR practitioner, Mike has used that experience to develop a portfolio career as an independent mediator, executive coach and HR consultant. In his mediation practice, he has resolved hundreds or cases for several departments of the Alameda County Superior Court, San Francisco Police Department Office of Police Accountability and California Lawyers for the Arts as well as private clients. As an executive coach and HR consultant he brings his broad and deep HR and business experience to his clients.
Previously, at Jeitosa Group International, Mike provided strategy consulting in all people-related functions for global clients. He brought his experience as a business professional, with expertise in virtually every function of HR and Administration, to assist Jeitosa clients with their strategic challenges in areas including change management, talent management, business ethics, global diversity, mergers and acquisitions, organization effectiveness and metrics.
Before that Mike was a long-time HR practitioner, having headed HR at leading companies, including salesforce.com, Farmers Insurance Group, Zurich Personal Insurance and Empire Blue Cross & Blue Shield. While at Farmers, his department won first place in the large company category of the National HR Service Excellence Survey. Mike started his career at ITT Corporation, then the largest and most diverse conglomerate in the world.
He has lived and worked overseas on several occasions and is conversant in French, German and Portuguese. In 2005, Mike authored the chapter on Business Partnering in The Successful HR Executive, published by Aspatore Press. He is certified by the HR Certification Institute as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, by SHRM as a Senior Certified Professional. He is a member of the HRSF Community Build Committee, the Board of Directors the Hale Foundation and SHRM’s Measures and Metrics Taskforce.
Mike holds an MBA in International Business from Columbia and a BA in Psychology from Yale. He is certified in dispute resolution by UC Berkeley and in negotiation by Harvard University. He resides in Oakland, CA, named by Rand McNally as the city with the best weather in the US.
