Global HR Strategy
Planning and Leadership

Paula Schmidlin is a global HR strategist with over 20 years professional experience. With an undergraduate math degree and an MBA, Paula brings a uniquely analytical perspective to the HR discipline, and has thrived in some of the most intensely competitive, dynamic growth environments of the past decade.

Most recently Senior Director at LSI Corporation, Paula led a global staff of 21 professionals for this multinational leader in semiconductor components.  Prior to LSI, she lived overseas for 11 years in London, Dubai and Cairo, while establishing herself as a key member of Barclays Capital’s Emerging Markets growth team.  Tapped in 2007 as HR Country Head for Egypt, Paula architected and led the bank’s HR strategy in this rapidly changing market.  During this landmark expansion, Paula directed the recruitment and orientation of 900 permanent employees and 3,500 outsourced associates, designed and instituted incentive programs to successfully drive a more performance driven culture, and laid the foundation for effective talent development and career growth.  Often referred to as the ‘glue’ that maintains order amid chaos, she has the leadership ability and gravitas to advance initiatives in turbulent times, combined with the cultural agility to respond quickly to changing economic and political landscapes.

Paula’s early career laid the foundation for her philosophy that an HR business partner must first and foremost know the business while functioning as a collaborative, trusted partner and advisor to executive teams and key stakeholders.  At AT Kearney, she developed business strategies to effectively manage global business change, improve business productivity, and enhance employee performance. This management consulting experience provided an early understanding of the impact that an organization’s capabilities and resources have on its competitive edge in the market.

Paula has an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business and a Math degree from Indiana University. She is currently the Treasurer and co-Program Chair for the HR Strategy Forum, a California leadership organization for HR executives. She contributes her time and energy tutoring junior high school students in Math and helping highly skilled migrant workers in their job search at Upwardly Global.
