HRSF 2015 Program Series: Transforming HR by Creating & Driving a Purpose Driven Culture

Theme for 2015: In response to a growing demand from our participants, the theme for HR Strategy Forum’s 2015 programs will be dedicated to building purpose driven organizations and cultures. Participants will have the opportunity to develop new competencies and discover their own purpose, achieve heightened impact through their teams and drive the building of a purpose driven organization.  This unique educational and development program series, for HR leaders and their teams, offers an opportunity to transform their own roles as they take the lead in transforming their organizations. Targeted Outcomes: Tangible applications to lead corporate transformations, personal and professional growth for all participants and facilitated networking among local senior HR leaders.

 

Scheduled SessionsEach session begins with registration, coffee and networking at 8:00 AM; Program is from 8:30 - 11:30 AM with one networking/refreshment break (except November and December)

 

Session #1:  The Power of Purpose: Featuring Arthur Woods, Founder and COO of Imperative; colleague of Aaron Hurst, author of The Purpose Economy

March 17- Southern California, Experian

This program sets the stage for  building  a purpose- driven organization and features the latest research and thought leadership around ‘Purpose Driven Organizations’ and  how these learnings can be converted into personal and organizational applications. This program will be delivered as an interactive,  ‘Action Learning Experience’ and will include an opportunity to set up small cohorts that can interact with each other between sessions, either online or in local coffee shops.  In this research-based program, and as a kick-off to the year’s focus on building a purpose-driven culture, Arthur Woods will:

  • Review the social and economic trends that are shaping the emerging Purpose Economy
  • Highlight the anticipated Future of Work and its implications for organizations and HR leadership
  • Speak to how HR leaders can transform both their own roles and organizations by building purpose-driven cultures
  • Help you personally enhance the way you engage and connect with others
  •  Offer you the opportunity to identify your own unique purpose with Imperative.com’s online self-assessment tool
  • Guide small group exploration on the extent to which Purpose is or could be a driving force within your own organization
  • Share best practices initiated, critiqued and fine-tuned in early adopters

Session #2:  Discovering and Applying Your Purpose: Featuring Nick Craig, CEO, Authentic Leadership Institute

In this session Nick Craig will lead an interactive session focused on an in-depth look at discovering and applying your Purpose, and helping others to do the same. He will:

  • Share the Harvard Business School research and field validation that he has led with top management at several Fortune 100 companies on the competitive advantage that a purpose-driven culture provides.
  • Lead an exploration and sharing in small groups about your own underlying motivations, interests, values and experiences that have shaped the essence of who you are.
  • Through the insight and support of those small groups, help you define and articulate a crisp, compelling message of your Purpose.
  • Show the way you can powerfully link that Purpose to the pursuit of business goals and personal fulfillment.
  • Demonstrate how you can take your own leadership teams through the same experience to achieve higher levels of engagement and effectiveness.

Session 3: Moving From Purpose to Impact: Leading a Purpose-driven Company, Featuring Mike Bergelson, CEO, Everwise Corporation

May 13 - Northern California – Symantec

Mike Bergelson will share his view from the top in building and sustaining a purpose-driven company.  He will share:

  • Why he did it and how he did it
  • Best practices shared and lessons learned
  • The hard competitive edge of getting the soft stuff right
  • The actual impact on the business and its market performance

Session 4: Aligning the Organization around Common Purpose, Featuring Stan Slap, Author and Founder & President of Slap

Stan Slap will share his most recent research and bench testing with tens of thousands of managers in more than seventy countries on the management development and hard-wiring that goes into building a purpose-driven culture.  He will cover the following topics:

  • How to create emotional commitment in managers, employees and customers
  • How to achieve the unbeatable impact of truly committed managers
  • How to transform your management development approach and in so doing transform your organization
  • How to sell It to your company

Session 5:   Building Your Action Plan: The conference will be the capstone program of this year’s event series, all of which are dedicated to building purpose-driven organizations and cultures. This full-day workshop featuring Dr. Homa Bahrami and thought leaders and practitioners is presented in partnership with the Center for Executive Education, Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley.

November 5 - The University Club at UC Berkeley’s California Memorial Stadium

 

Participants will have the opportunity to develop new competencies and discover their own purpose, achieve heightened impact through their teams and drive the building of a purpose driven organization. 

The conference will consist of four major components:

  • A recap of programs earlier in the year, featuring speakers and a panel of practitioners.
  • Review of current research and thinking on creating purpose as a cornerstone of organizational culture led by distinguished Berkeley Haas faculty member and noted author Dr. Homa Bahrami joined by a panel of Silicon Valley CEOs.
  • Participative exercise in which attendees will have a facilitated opportunity to crystalize what they’ve learned and begin to compile plans for their own efforts.
  • A plenary session in which there will be open discussion among all attendees and experts to synthesize and consolidate the learnings of the year and future plans

The event offers individuals and teams the opportunity to learn from, and share with, professionals at all stages of the development of purpose driven organizations. It will help them become more purpose driven in their professional lives and to support their organizations in doing the same.  There will also be an optional dinner the evening before and a reception following the conference.
