Building Organizational Capability: Aligning Talent Management with Strategy

David Insler, Sibson Consulting

Three key assumptions, critical to building organization capability to meet strategic growth, will be explored:

  • Taking a comprehensive business and organizational strategy perspective when assessing talent
  • Coordinating and connecting each element of Talent Management into a truly integrated process
  • Aligning Talent Management with and integrating into business planning … make it relevant.

Through a review of several case studies, discussion of these assumptions and the related processes will identify the role HR professionals have in applying their OD/OE skills in partnering with line management to meet their goals. These case studies emphasize the importance of understanding business strategy as well as key drivers of success, then analyzing the underlying initiatives in terms of the talent required to achieve desired results.

Sustainable Collaborations: Creating a Culture of Agreement & Resolution

Stewart Levine, Resolution Works

Sustainable Collaborations are essential for the success of any organization. That involves starting off well, and knowing how to get back on track when inevitable disagreements develop. This program will provide the conversational competence you need for sustaining high performance by creating “Agreements for Results,” a meeting of minds and hearts, with partners, customers, suppliers and everyone in your organization. The program will show you how to create a “Culture of Agreement & Resolution.” Specifically the program will include:

  • The Real Cost of Conflict: The Business Case for Sustained Collaboration
  • Understanding the Law of Agreement: Collaboration, the Key to Productivity
  • The Ten Essential Elements of Agreements for Results: Creating Shared Vision
  • Developing the Attitude of Resolution: Ten Principles of Resolutionary Thinking
  • The Cycle of Resolution: Getting to Relationship
  • Developing and Sustaining Trust: The Essential Context

Stewart improves productivity while saving the enormous cost of conflict. His innovative work with “Agreements for Results” and his “Cycle of Resolution” (to be included in the second edition of “The Change Handbook”) are unique. A former NJ Deputy Attorney General he realized that fighting was very ineffective for resolving problems. As a marketing executive for AT&T he saw that collaborations fall apart when people do not spend the time at the beginning creating clarity about what they want to accomplish, and how. This is true for employment relationships, teams, joint ventures and all members of any virtual team. From his experience he designed conversational models that create agreement and a quick return to productivity when working relationship break downs. He forms teams and joint ventures in a variety of situations with individuals, couples, partners, small and large organizations of all kinds. “ His book "Getting to Resolution: Turning Conflict into Collaboration” (Berrett-Koehler 1998) was featured by Executive Book Summaries; named one of the 30 Best Business Books of1998; and called “a marvelous book” by Dr. Stephen Covey. It has been translated into Russian, Hebrew and Portuguese. “The Book of Agreement” (Berrett-Koehler 2003) has been called “more practical” than the classic “Getting to Yes” and named one of the best books of 2003.(www.Refresher.com). He teaches communication and conflict management skills for The American Management Association and IBI Global. www.ResolutionWorks.com
