December Members Meeting Featured Presentations on Executive Onboarding and Courageous Enterprise

December 6th and 13th

December’s meetings in San Francisco, Menlo Park, San Diego, and Irvine offered the participants and presenters a great opportunity to share experiences and exchange ideas about some cutting edge strategic HR issues. The main two themes of the sessions were Executive Onboarding: Process and Tools for Accelerating Executive Success, presented by Judy Allen, Lorraine Stomski, and Jeff Quinn; and Courageous Enterprise: Creating Higher Purpose Organizations, presented by Vince Caimano.

Judy Allen of Agilent Technologies, in partnership with Jeff Quinn and Lorraine Stomski of Aon Consulting gave an overview of the global executive onboarding process that was implemented at Agilent Technologies. They focused on the importance of executive onboarding as a course of actions that ensure the new leader’s successfully integration in the new organization. Judy Allen pointed out that onboarding should not be considered as merely an introduction of a new leader to the organization, but as a process that goes hand in hand with selection and in its totality is really a special case of organization transformation.

The presenters also articulated the need for a systematic approach to onboarding process in order to accelerate the new leader’s transition. Participants were introduced to tools for supporting executive success and received a hard copy of the complete toolkit that Agilent uses.

Vince Caimano of Amor Ministries led the second session of the meeting. The presentation was a mixture of lively open discussion and examples of how organizations and their leaders can build a more durable business strategy, while becoming good corporate citizens. As Vince Caimano indicated, many organizations are looking beyond the bottom line and are becoming aware that a positive social impact is a necessary element of an effective business strategy.

The session included discussions about the HR leaders’ role in encouraging the development of socially responsible corporate programs, the benefits of good corporate citizenship, and how to develop a business strategy that goes in harmony with social responsibility.
